Vale Olwyn Johnston

Our good friend and Nurse Practitioner pioneer, Olwyn Johnston passed away on March 8th 2006.

Her funeral was held in Lightning Ridge on 15th March with a large turn out of family and friends.

Ollie was the first NP in NSW and therefore Australia, following authorisation to work in a NP role. That role was in Waanaring in the far west of NSW. It was a remote location but Ollie's personality guaranteed that she was well know by all.

She paved the way for NPs nationally and her sparkling personality and colourful character certainly ensured that once met she was never forgotten.

We will miss Ollie enormously but her spirit will live on through us all.

She was a friend, mentor and most often someone you could have a good time with.

The College of Nursing at Burwood, Sydney in association with ANPA held a celebration of Ollie's life at the College on 31st March. As a way of recognising Ollie in perpetuity the ANPA and the College of Nursing will soon anounce an annual scholarship.
